List of experiments

This is a list of fictional experiments from the Disney animated Lilo & Stitch franchise , most of them making their first appearances in Lilo & Stitch: The Series . These experiments are genetically engineered creatures created by Dr. Jumba Jookiba in his lab at "Galaxy Defense Industries", with the assistance of Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel who funded the projects with "shady" business deals. Prior to the events of Lilo & Stitch , every experiment created was dehydrated into a small orb called an "experiment pod" and stored in a special container for transport. In Stitch! The Movie , the container was accidentally opened and the pods rained down on the island of Kauai. The experiments within the pods are reactivated upon contact in water, a point of concern because many of the experiments are dangerous and Kauai hosts one of the wettest spots on Earth.

Upon encountering each experiment, Stitch's human friend and partner Lilo gives the experiment a name just as she gave Stitch his name. The two then attempt to rehabilitate the experiments and find a purpose for them on Earth that suits their specific abilities, referred to as the "one true place" they belong.

Stitch, inspired by Hawaiian terminology, refers to the other experiments as his "cousins" and considers them all a part of his ohana , or "extended family". All of Jumba's original 626 experiments have their names and numbers listed alongside the credits in Leroy & Stitch .

Experiment series [ ]

The first digit of the experiment numbers reflect what series of experiment they belong to. The official series of experiments, as stated by Jess Winfield, one of the executive producers, are as follows:

  • 0-Series: Jumba's test batch, including many household helpers.
  • 1-Series: Civic disturbances.
  • 2-Series: Technological and scientific.
  • 3-Series: Psychological.
  • 4-Series: Mysterious series of mostly failed experiments.
  • 5-Series: Elemental manipulators.
  • 6-Series: Battlefield or doomsday experiments with galactic implications.

For the most part, the colors of the experiment pods correspond to the series numbers, however some of the pods are colored incorrectly.

Continuity errors [ ]

  • Several experiments have been given multiple numbers, such as Bonnie and Clyde, who are called 349 and 350 in their episode but called 149 and 150 in the end credits of Leroy & Stitch .
  • Many of the experiments that appear in the background during the Aloha Stadium battle in Leroy & Stitch are duplicates or recolors and slight edits of existing experiments. They may not be canon experiments, but were put in as screen fillers to make it appear that all 626 experiments were actually there. Experiment 604, Houdini, appears five times in the frame, while Experiment 520, Cannonball, appears eight times; twice recoloured, twice re-edited and four times copied.

Plot Summary

Discover the intricate plot of Lilo & Stitch (2002). From unexpected twists to emotional highs and lows, this detailed summary breaks down every moment to give you a deeper understanding of the film’s story.

On the distant planet of Turo, the United Galactic Federation apprehends the erratic scientist, Dr. Jumba Jookiba , for conducting illegal genetic experiments. He has created a formidable creature known as Experiment 626 —an aggressive, bulletproof being engineered for destruction. This monstrous creation possesses extraordinary abilities, including fire resistance and immense strength, making 626 a significant threat. The Federation, witnessing his savage behavior, including an inappropriate response to a desperate inquiry about his potential for goodness, quickly determines that he cannot coexist with any other living species. Consequently, 626 is sentenced to exile on a barren asteroid.

As fate would have it, during transit, 626 cleverly escapes confinement by manipulating the weapons aimed at him, causing a chaotic breach. A ship hijack ensues, leading to a crash landing on Earth, specifically on a secluded island in Kaua’I, Hawaii . Although ill-suited for the ocean due to his heavy density, 626 miraculously survives the mishap.

Following his landing, 626 finds himself in a precarious situation when he is struck by a vehicle and subsequently placed in an animal shelter, stripped of his weapons and identity. Meanwhile, the Grand Councilwoman enlists the help of Jumba and the Earth specialist, Agent Pleakley , to retrieve the escaped creature without disastrous measures.

In the backdrop of this extraterrestrial chaos, we meet Nani Pelekai —a struggling orphaned teenager trying to support her rambunctious younger sister, Lilo , after the untimely death of their parents in a tragic accident. Lilo, filled with mischief, disrupts the local hula practice and fiercely defends her belief that her pet fish controls the weather. Their dynamic is further complicated by the scrutiny of social worker Cobra Bubbles , who questions Nani’s capability to care for Lilo, threatening to separate them if their situation does not improve within three days.

Amidst the rising tensions, Lilo prays for a friend—the one who wouldn’t abandon her. Heartfelt wishes lead Nani to the shelter where she adopts 626 , who has assumed the guise of an adorable dog and is renamed “Stitch”. Although Stitch tries to blend in, he disrupts their lives, triggering wild adventures across the island and drawing the attention of Jumba and Pleakley.

As Nani navigates her working struggles and Lilo’s antics escalate, the trio surprisingly forms a bond. Stitch, rejecting his programmed violent nature, begins to learn about familial love and acceptance, often hearing Lilo’s lessons about Ohana , which means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.

But Jumba sees only a monster in Stitch, determining he can never truly integrate into a family. As the turmoil escalates, Stitch finds himself in dangerous situations; the Grand Councilwoman tasks others to retrieve Stitch, setting off a chain of events that leads to confrontations, rescues, and ultimately, self-discovery.

In a gripping climax, Nani and Stitch band together to face ruthless challenges, culminating in a showdown involving a volcanic explosion that leads to Stitch saving not just Lilo but also affirming his place within the Pelekai family. The culmination brings about a resolution, with the Grand Councilwoman allowing Stitch to stay on Earth, recognizing the bond he has formed with his newfound family.

In a finale brimming with growth, Stitch, Jumba, and Pleakley integrate into the Pelekails’ lives, showcasing the transformative power of love as they rebuild their home and embrace their united family dynamic, highlighted by thrilling moments of hula dancing and camaraderie.

Background [ ]

Personality [ ].

Sample is a lively, upbeat experiment. He is usually happy and easily amused by his own music and any other sound, commonly dancing by bouncing from one foot to the other. His perky, carefree attitude may be a result of him being blissfully unaware of the situation at hand. He also shows great curiosity toward any sound that is new or unfamiliar to him. He doesn't like to be silent unless he can play his music (or any sound) to amuse himself. He normally just tends to do his own thing, completely disregarding the simple command to be quiet, yet following complex instructions during a rescue mission. He doesn't have a real voice (he can only dub someone else's voice) but finds a way to communicate through his backbeats, head nods, and basic hand signals.

When he appears transmutated in Stitch! , however, he becomes more aggressive, as he forces others to dance to his beat. He also gets angry when others try to stop his rhythm and not dance along.

Physical appearance [ ]

Sample is an orange koala-like experiment. He has a tuft of fur on his chest, stubby soft paws and legs, pointed fingers, hourglass-shaped markings on his legs, and black pupil-less eyes. He also has a big round oval-shaped nose with purple and magenta stripes, which functions as an amplified microphone, and big round ears resembling speakers.

When he is transmutated by Hämsterviel , he is a darker orange color, gains green irises, and has Hämsterviel's insignia on his nose.

Powers and abilities [ ]

Sample can record any sound that he hears through his nose (microphone) and play it through his mouth and ears (loudspeakers) with other recorded sounds in loops and backbeats to make music that can be annoying or catchy. Like Stitch , he can climb walls and ceilings.

In the Stitch! anime, it is also revealed that Sample can use his speakers to launch out yellow rings of dust that make individuals dance uncontrollably after being transmutated by Hämsterviel.

Appearances [ ]

Lilo & stitch: the series [ ].

Experiment 258 was the 258th genetic experiment created by Jumba with Hämsterviel 's funding. He was designed to annoy enemies by recording, replaying, and looping random sounds that he hears. 258 and the other first 624 experiments were deactivated and smuggled to Earth by Jumba during his mission to capture Experiment 626 .

All of the experiment pods were released and scattered across the island of Kauai, with 258's pod landing on a golf course.

258's pod was mistaken for a golf ball, where a golfer whacked it into a pond, activating the experiment. 258 then deftly recorded and sampled the noises of a parrot and frog, causing the golfers to become annoyed by the racket.

Later, 258 sampled the sound of a jackhammer and casually made his way to town , where he was almost captured by Gantu , who was out looking for the experiment. However, 258 was instead caught by the dogcatcher, who mistook the former for a dog and took him to the dog shelter .

The dog pound lady contacted Merwin and Dean , two alien hunters who eagerly accepted 258 and almost took him to an alien convention. However, when Lilo and a reluctant Stitch later arrived at the pound to get Stitch his shots, Merwin and Dean (seeing that Stitch was an alien too) attempted to grab him to take him to the convention as well. When Lilo and Stitch saw 258, they decided to rescue him from the two alien hunters.

Lilo, Stitch, and 258 managed to escape Merwin and Dean, but when the trio attempted to hide from them, 258 kept playing his rhythm, despite being told to be quiet by Lilo. The two alien hunters were alerted by 258's music and soon caught up. However, Gantu intervened, causing Merwin and Dean to try to catch him as well, since he was also an alien. They chased Gantu, forgetting about Stitch and 258.

Safe for now, Lilo, Stitch, and 258 arrived home , where Jumba explained 258's powers. Due to the latter's skills, Lilo decided to name 258 Sample (whom Stitch locked in the closet after he was nearly driven crazy by the cacophony of recorded sounds). Shortly after, Pleakley left to attend the alien convention, with a wary Jumba tagging along.

Later, Gantu came to the Pelekais' house looking for a place to hide from Merwin and Dean. Although hesitant, Lilo and Stitch complied after Gantu promised to behave and not take Sample away. As the two alien hunters tried to break in, Sample began sampling random noises, despite Lilo and Stitch's best efforts to silence him. Everyone then quickly escaped out a window, but Gantu got stuck halfway and was captured by Merwin and Dean.

Lilo, Stitch, and Sample went back to rescue Gantu, but he blasted the trio into a net and then put Stitch and Sample into containment orbs . Lilo reprimanded Gantu's betrayal, though he informed her that he had called a truce with Merwin and Dean by allowing them to showcase Stitch and Sample, the latter of whom they would give back to Gantu in return.

Stitch and Sample were taken to the alien convention, where Merwin and Dean planned to have them be shown in front of an audience to prove aliens were real. However, Stitch escaped and released Sample. Gantu unsuccessfully tried to stop them from running away. Merwin and Dean then forced Gantu to pose as an alien in front of the entire audience.

Sample later found his one true place providing backbeats for the band Fox Roswell and the Tall Grays, whose rhythm was initially out of sync.

In " Snafu ", Sample was one of the experiments that joined Lilo and Stitch on a mission to rescue Gantu's captive experiments. Sample stood watch outside Gantu's ship and was told to crow like a rooster if the coast was clear, while the others all broke into the ship. While he was standing guard, Experiment 120 somehow convinced him to imitate the ship's alarm system, thus alerting Gantu to their location.

Leroy & Stitch [ ]

The first 624 experiments, including Sample, were rounded up by Leroy and taken to a stadium to be destroyed. However, Lilo , Stitch , Jumba , Pleakley , Reuben , and Gantu arrived before the experiments could be destroyed.

Sample participated in the following battle between the experiments and the Leroy clones by annoying Leroys with his cacophony of recorded sounds.

However, the Leroys soon gained the upper hand in the battle, but were defeated when Lilo, Stitch, Reuben, and several other experiments performed the song " Aloha ʻOe ", which caused the Leroy army to shut down due to the original Leroy's fail-safe.

Stitch! [ ]

Despite appearing prominently in certain intros of Seasons 1 and 2 of the Stitch! anime, Sample only appeared in one episode of Season 3: "Yuna vs. Jessica". In this episode, he was "transmutated" by Hämsterviel so that instead of just repeating sounds he hears, he can fire waves of light yellow dust from his ears, causing anyone it touches to dance uncontrollably when he plays his music (similar to Carmen 's ability).

He was given the assignment to use his ability to get Stitch to the top of a hill, where a pre-built transportation device would be waiting to send him to Delia . He managed to form a parade out of several people he affected, including Jessica , Toriko, Makiko, Hiroman and his entire soccer team, and even Stitch. However, when he tried to use his power on Yuna , the dust reflected off her umbrella, hitting him and breaking his spell on everyone. Stitch was then able to use the spandex-covered inside of the umbrella to absorb Sample's dust and dump it on him, knocking him unconscious.

He was then placed in a machine built by Jumba that would reverse the transmutation, but he still used his dancing power on Yuna when a little bit of the remaining dust from the umbrella fell on her. Stitch then discovered that the machine wasn't plugged in, but decided to enjoy Yuna dancing for a while, despite her protests.

Eventually, Sample was reverted back to normal, then dehydrated back into an experiment pod and locked in Jumba's vault as shown in "Shogun". Eventually, Jumba grabbed his pod to help Stitch in his fight against Dark End , but Sample wasn't one of the experiments that was activated. He later appeared in the special Stitch and the Planet of Sand .

Boomer (288)

Boomer , also known as Experiment 288 , is an illegal genetic experiment created by Jumba Jookiba and a character in the Lilo & Stitch franchise . He is designed to be a living boomerang. His one true place is with Mrs. Hasagawa as one of her " cats ".

Background and appearances [ ]

Experiment 288 was the 288th genetic experiment created by Jumba with Hämsterviel 's funding. He was designed to act as a living boomerang. 288 and the other first 624 experiments were deactivated and smuggled to Earth by Jumba during his mission to capture Experiment 626 .

All of the experiment pods were released and scattered across the island of Kauai . Against statistically unlikely (but not impossible) odds, several experiment pods landed in one location: Mrs. Hasagawa 's yard, 288's pod being one of them.

Lilo & Stitch: The Series [ ]

At an unknown point, Mrs. Hasagawa mistook 288's pod for an apricot and washed it, activating the experiment. However, as 288 was not a very evil or destructive experiment, he was able to live a peaceful life with her, due to the latter seeing the former as a mere stray cat who needed a home.

When Lilo and Stitch discovered that Mrs. Hasagawa kept several experiments as pets, they thought they were a danger to her and, along with Jumba and Pleakley , decided to capture them all. Stitch tried to get 288 to willingly go into a container , but when he saw Experiment 111 rapidly approaching, he grabbed 288, threw him into the air, and used the aforementioned container on 111 instead. When 288 came back (the way real boomerangs do after being thrown), Stitch grabbed another container and caught him in it.

288 and the other experiments were about to be taken away, but were returned to Mrs. Hasagawa when Lilo and Stitch saw how much she cared for them. 288 was then named Boomer.

In " Woops ", Boomer was oddly seen as one of the captive experiments in Hämsterviel 's prison cell , although he is barely seen, suggesting Gantu caught Boomer, but this was an error. Boomer was then sent back to Gantu after Experiment 600 caused mischief and nearly blew Hämsterviel's cover to the prison guards .

Leroy & Stitch [ ]

The first 624 experiments, including Boomer, were rounded up by Leroy and taken to a stadium to be destroyed. However, Lilo , Stitch , Jumba , Pleakley , Reuben and Gantu arrived before the experiments could be destroyed.

Boomer participated in the following battle between the experiments and the Leroy clones by being thrown at Leroys' heads.

However, the Leroys soon gained the upper hand in the battle, but were defeated when Lilo, Stitch, Reuben and several other experiments performed the song " Aloha ʻOe ", which caused the Leroy army to shut down due to the original Leroy's fail-safe.

Stitch! anime [ ]

Boomer made an appearance in the Stitch! anime, along with Pix , Slushy , Blowhard , Kixx , and Slugger , when Yuna and Stitch visited Tokyo Disneyland.

Biology [ ]

Physical appearance [ ].

Boomer is a small white-and-brown experiment with a red nose, a lightweight body and a curved, boomerang-shaped head with two antennae. His face lays in the elbow of the "boomerang" with small three-fingered hands on the tips of the "boomerang".

Special abilities [ ]

Boomer can use his body as a boomerang.

  • Boomer was activated off-screen .
  • In " Woops ", Boomer erroneously appeared with Gantu's other captive experiments, although he is barely seen, but he was already living with Mrs. Hasagawa, and Lilo and Stitch discovered him while Gantu was asleep.
