Behavioral Medicine is an interdisciplinary field concerned with the development and integration of sociocultural, psychosocial, behavioral and biomedical knowledge and techniques relevant to the understanding of health and illness and the application of this knowledge and these techniques to disease prevention, health promotion, etiology, diagnoses, treatment and rehabilitation.

The University of Miami Behavioral Medicine Research Center conducts a range of research utilizing customized laboratory space on both the Coral Gables and Medical Campuses. 

On the Coral Gables campus, the Behavioral Medicine Research Building contains a human psychophysiology labratory and a quantitive/statistics labratory.

On the Medical Campus, The Soffer Clinical Research Center hosts intaks/assessment suites with medical exam rooms, an echocardiography labratory, and a biochemical assay labratory.

Our Researchers

The BMRC consists of a multi-disciplinary group of faculty and staff who have long collaborated on NIH and other funded clinical/translational research at the interface of biomedical and behavioral science. A major emphasis of this work is on health disparities. Since its authorization in 1986 by University President Edward T. Foote; Executive Vice President and Provost, Luis Glaser; Vice Provost and Deputy Dean for Medical Research, Robert Rubin, and the chairs of Psychology and Medicine, the BMRC has facilitated joint extramurally funded research by faculty members in the Department of Psychology as well as departments and units within the Medical School. This has been continually nourished by an NIH supported pre- and post-doctoral T32 training grant administered by BMRC faculty members investigating cardiovascular disease, and in most years also by a similar T32 training grant investigating HIV/AIDS. Associate Directors of the BMRC are Marc Gellman, PhD (Operations) and Barry Hurwitz, PhD (Biobehavioral Processes).

The most classless and tactless people are being hired here and misrepresenting Maria Rodriguez and the Clinical Research of South Florida Team as a whole. Tan woman, late 30's, with a bad attitude, glasses, and long unkempt hair with added faded color. She was extremely rude, aggressive, and should not work with people if they do not like others. I ran into her and asked her a question and was met with an eye roll and a glare... act your age and properly represent your employer. Truly sad to see, I expected more professionalism.

Imaging Services Offered

We offer a wide range of specialized imaging technologies to give patients precise and understandable results. Our highly qualified team is available to provide additional details about our offerings. Review our cutting-edge services below.

Bone Density Scan An important tool for assessing bone strength and mass, our bone density scans aid in the early detection of osteoporosis and risk assessment for fractures. It also lets us know if osteoporosis treatment is working.

Computed Tomography (CT) Computed tomography (CT) scans use a series of X-rays and a computer to create detailed images of the bones and soft tissues. CT scans allow us to see things that won’t show up on regular X-rays.

Fluoroscopy Fluoroscopy shows real-time footage of tissues inside the body on a monitor. This helps us see the body’s systems in action and provides visual guidance for certain procedures.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) We use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to take detailed images of internal structures. MRI is noninvasive and helps evaluate and diagnose conditions affecting bones and soft tissues.

Ultrasound We use ultrasound imaging to diagnose musculoskeletal conditions like tendon injuries, muscle abnormalities, and arthritis. Ultrasound is also a safe and common method for viewing babies in the womb.

Ultrasound-Guided Injections Ultrasound guidance lets us see nearby structures in the body and deliver medication to the exact trigger point. This precise approach quickly relieves pain and inflammation where you need it.

Women’s Imaging Women's imaging includes diagnostic imaging procedures that help diagnose conditions common in women, such as breast or gynecological cancers. We offer mammograms, ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided biopsy.

X-ray X-ray uses invisible electromagnetic waves to produce images of internal structures, particularly the bones. It uses a very small amount of ionizing radiation to produce these pictures.

Radiation Safety We ensure the safety and security of all patients, team members, and visitors. This includes radiation hygiene, interventional procedures using imaging guidance, and using contrast agents for improved visibility. Policies and procedures that ensure safety and security are established through administrative controls and oversight.

Radiologic Interpretation All imaging exams performed at Lennar are interpreted by experts who are certified by the American College of Radiology in MRI, CT, ultrasound, and PET scans. Our experts have specialized training in musculoskeletal imaging, ensuring top-notch diagnostic and therapeutic services. Our experts are also nationally recognized for their contributions to radiology.

Experienced radiologists can detect subtle X-ray findings early, before they progress and become more obvious. This enables early diagnosis and treatment, ultimately leading to improved outcomes and reduced costs.
